It makes no sense for religious believers to insist that they know what atheism means better than atheists do. If you're saying "Atheism means X," and every atheist you talk to says, "No, that isn't what it means at all," perhaps you ought to listen to what we're saying instead of to your own preconceptions. Pass it on: if we say it enough times to enough people, it may get across.

Someone will inevitably answer that atheists do this all the time to Christians; and, well, it is partly true. We've all seen it happen.

I like to add that this not only applies to believers, but also to Agnostics - specifically the "we are better than atheists because they are dogmatic and we are neutral"-style Agnostics.

I just stumbled on your blog today and it is refreshing to see an atheist blog. I hesitate to say but in many ways it feels like atheists are the most persecuted 'religion'(but maybe that is just based on living in Florida where it is practically a crime to not be religious).
