"Mysterious ways" is still trying to have it both ways. No one ever invokes "mysterious ways" for stuff that makes people happy. The implication is, "if I like what happens, then God did it and I know why He did it, and if I don't like what happens, then God works in mysterious ways."

Valhar2000

if I like what happens, then God did it and I know why He did it, and if I don't like what happens, then God works in mysterious ways.

Exactly! Why can't you atheists get this already? It must be all that anger you carry from having had a bad relationship with your fathers...

I just posted about this myself, and I quite like it.

The post is here.

If there are such things as miracles, meaning a sign of godly intervention, then all things must be miracles, right? Because if god intervenes, say, to save that poor little Dutch boy, then he intervened to knock off the rest of his family and all the other passengers. Hallelujah.

This brings to mind the words of the Holy Six (although presumably mostly Eric Idle):

All things dull and ugly, All creatures short and squat,

All things rude and nasty, The Lord God made the lot;

Each little snake that poisons, Each little wasp that stings,

He made their brutish venom, He made their horrid wings.

All things sick and cancerous, All evil great and small,

All things foul and dangerous, The Lord God made them all.

Each nasty little hornet, Each beastly little squid.

Who made the spikey urchin? Who made the sharks? He did.

All things scabbed and ulcerous, All pox both great and small.

Putrid, foul and gangrenous, The Lord God made them all.
