"Yeah, we were in the game, until Jesus made me fumble." — Jeff Stilson

Having it both ways is a time honoured tradition in apologetics. Someone does something good, then God is working through them (even if it is a non-believer that expressly denies the existence of the god). Someone does something bad, then it's all Free Will, and God shall not be blamed, even if the person was a pious believer.

Jesse Weinstein

I posted this to Facebook. A theist friend of mine commented on it -- the outcome of the discussion was that he agreed with the substance, but read the last sentence as "believers are stupid". I can certainly sympathize with this reading, although I think the sentence doesn't necessarily mean that, and that it is useful for encouraging the choir.

So folks may want to leave the last sentence off when posting the memes in public (but include it when sending them privately to other atheist friends).

All things dull and ugly,

All creatures short and squat,

All things rude and nasty,

The Lord God made the lot.

Each little snake that poisons,

Each little wasp that stings,

He made their brutish venom.

He made their horrid wings.

All things sick and cancerous,

All evil great and small,

All things foul and dangerous,

The Lord God made them all.

Each nasty little hornet,

Each beastly little squid.

Who made the spikey urchin?

Who made the sharks? He did!

All things scabbed and ulcerous,

All pox both great and small,

Putrid, foul and gangrenous,

The Lord God made them all.

Amen.

Can't you see that it is God who is working in the good things and that it is we who are wallowing in the bad because it is we who have turned away from all that is good, we have turned away from God. God is responsible for all that is good. It is the blind who cannot see the truth of the matter.
