Well, sure. I do this all the time: when I read a novel, I'll accept for the sake of the story that the Illuminati run the world, or that there are private bases on the moon, or that John and Mary really can live together without killing each other. That doesn't mean I have to believe it when I close the book.

I saw a button at a science fiction convention once that said "Of course you can write good stories in a world you didn't create. Mainstream writers do it now and again."

Vjack from "Atheist Revolution" once talked about how some guy couldn't understand how he enjoyed zombie movies even though he doesn't believe zobies exist. Yet another mindset I am almost entirely unable to understand...

While I will not always demand realism from fiction, I do generally demand believability and consistency: I will expect a work to follow its own rules as established in the preceding narrative, and the characters to act according to their personalities. If those conditions are fulfilled, you can throw as many ghosts, chakras, conspiracies and space ships at me as you want.

Why isn't this meme also true or legitimate (or whatever a meme is supposed to be) or is it:

"We can acknowledge that something is hypothetically possible [(eg. God or the supernatural), and can beleive in it even though]it's implausible, unsupported by any good evidence, and inconsistent with what we know about the world."

and can beleive in it even though]it's implausible, unsupported by any good evidence, and inconsistent with what we know about the world

Well, in as much as that people really seem to do this, but that just seems really weird to me to do that.
