I also briefly commented on that article on my own blog, I tend to assume that it all has more to do with the surrounding culture. (Actually I connect the influence of culture with many many things, including sexual orientation too, partially.)

I think the best thing the scientists can do is to try to repeat their experiments in Iran and Nigeria or different countries like that. I suspect that they would get a much different picture. But of course it's not easy to insert plethysmographs into women's vagina in Iran... might still work with other countries in Africa/Asia though.
